Happy Father's Day to all you Warrior Dads out there!
This was always a special weekend in our family since Warrior's birthday fell on or followed closely behind Father's Day as it does this year.
June 16 Warrior would have been 55. The girls and I would have baked him his chocolate cake (of which he would have eaten a single piece) and teased him for being so old! We would have taken him to the movies because that is what he loved most to do and he would've eaten all the popcorn and his chocolate almonds. As is tradition in our house he would have had his birthday balloons. Sadly this year we won't get to celebrate in our traditional way but as with all things we are adjusting to a new normal.
We have decided, however, he still needs his birthday balloons. So many of you have asked about services for Warrior. I hope a day comes when we will come together and celebrate his life but he would have hated all of us gathering to cry and mourn him. It is something he might've understood us doing singularly and privately but for him us gathering in sorrow would have been the antithesis of his philosophy of life.
On June 16 the girls and I are going to send 55 of the brightest balloons up into the sky and remember how lucky we were to have his love and leadership. We will remember him as the technicolor person in our lives who inspired and motivated us to be better. We will celebrate him. If you'd like to join us from your corner of the world please do. I like to imagine him looking down through the clouds and seeing a cascade of color and laughing his big awesome laugh.
The sky meant a lot to Warrior... Shooting stars, sunsets, and particularly sunrises so if you snap a picture of your balloon and slice of the sky the girls and I would love to see it #HappyBirthdayWarrior
Your love has sustained us during this sad and difficult time. Even in my darkest moments I drew strength from your ever present support. I believe.... Always.
